Dining Discount: The Heart of the Devaluation

What's Changing?

While the transaction level discount capping remains the same (25% off, capped at ₹1,000 per transaction), monthly discount amount caps have been introduced:

Monthly Discount Cap without Spending Conditions - ₹2,000

  • Impact: You reach this cap at monthly dining spends of ₹8000, hence the value can be maximized only for this lower amount of monthly dining spend

Monthly Discount Cap with Spending Conditions: Additional ₹3,000 (total ₹5,000)

  • This additional cap is unlocked only if you spend ₹30,000+ on non-dining categories in the previous calendar month.
  • Impact: The issue here is that these non-dining spends will attract very low rewards (maximum 1% on hotel & travel spends, newly introduced)

Transaction limit

  • Remains the same - 25% off, capped at ₹1,000 per transaction

The Math Behind the Impact

Previous Scenario: A dining enthusiast could easily save ₹5,000+ monthly with regular restaurant visits

New Scenario: Even heavy diners are limited to ₹2,000 monthly savings (₹5,000 with significant non-dining spending)

Travel & Movie Benefits: Complete Elimination

Airport Lounge Access

  • What you're losing: 8 complimentary domestic lounge visits annually
  • Value impact: ₹8,000-12,000 in lost annual value

Movie Benefits

  • What you're losing: ₹400 monthly BookMyShow credits (2 free BookMyShow movie tickets up to ₹200 each, every month)
  • Annual impact: ₹4,800 in lost entertainment value

Who Should Keep This Card?

Ideal New User Profile

The revamped card might still work for:

  • Light to moderate diners (2-4 restaurant visits monthly, with monthly dining spends up to ₹8000 per month)
  • Users who valued dining discounts over travel benefits
  • Users who value new Postcard renewal benefit, to make of increased renewal fee

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

  • Heavy diners who maximized the previous unlimited structure
  • Movie enthusiasts who relied on BookMyShow benefits
  • Frequent travelers who valued lounge access
